Córdoba Jewish Quarter Free Walking Tour
Tour Details
At the scheduled time, we’ll begin our free walking tour of Córdoba’s Jewish Quarter from Plaza del Triunfo. Are you ready to discover one of the areas with the richest heritage in this Andalusian city?
First, we’ll take in the Arco de la Puerta del Puente, so named because it’s located next to Córdoba’s Roman bridge. In fact, the Jewish community achieved significant prominence in the city precisely during the Roman era. Centuries later, the Visigoths arrived first, followed by the Muslims, and finally the Christians. What was life like for these communities living side by side from then on?
We’ll explore this as we walk around the exterior of the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos. We’ll skirt the old Jewish quarter, strolling along the walls of Córdoba, where we’ll pass by the Puerta de la Luna. Right next to it, we’ll see the statue of Averroes: a philosopher, physician, mathematician, and astronomer from the Al-Andalus period.
Next, we’ll venture into the narrow alleys of Córdoba’s Jewish quarter, where we’ll visit the synagogue. Did you know that this 14th-century synagogue is, along with the one in Toledo, one of the best-preserved in Spain? After learning about its history, we’ll see the statue of Maimonides: one of the leading Jewish physicians, philosophers, and astronomers of 12th-century Córdoba.
We’ll continue walking through the streets of Córdoba’s Jewish quarter, passing by other iconic sites, such as the souk, the Mudejar Chapel of San Bartolomé, and Plaza del Cardenal Salazar.
Finally, we’ll take a stroll through the beautiful streets of La Hoguera and Las Flores, and after a 90-minute free tour, we’ll wrap up this free tour in front of the Córdoba Convention Center.
