On this day trip to Ksar Ghilane and Matmata, we'll explore a beautiful oasis, enjoy hot springs, and discover troglodyte houses (cave or underground homes). You can't miss it!
At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Djerba and make our way towards Ksar Ghilane, approximately 3 hours away. During the drive, we'll cross the ancient El Kantara, a majestic Roman bridge spanning 7 kilometres (4.3 miles) which connects Djerba to the mainland.
Halfway through our journey, we'll stop at Medenine to visit a local café. During this break, we'll discuss the day's itinerary and, if you wish, you can grab a coffee.
We'll continue our travels along charming villages such as Beni Kheddach until we reach Ksar Ghilane, a hidden oasis in the heart of the extensive Grand Erg Oriental. Here, we'll spend 2 to 3 hours, the perfect amount of time to learn about the nomadic lifestyle in the area and admire the landscapes. If you wish, you can take a dip in the hot water springs. You'll emerge feeling completely restored! Additionally, you can also go on a camel ride or an ATV tour of the dunes.
Afterwards, we'll enjoy a delicious lunch in front of the dunes which includes local dishes such as soup, salad, Tunisian pastries, and couscous. Having re-energised, we'll head over to Matmata, famous for its troglodyte houses. We'll make the most of this tour by visiting one of these cave dwellings to enjoy rosemary tea and homemade bread served with olive oil and honey.
Once we begin our return journey back to Djerba, we'll follow the Berber Trail, learning about their unique way of life. We'll pass by spots that served as filming locations for Star Wars and make various 30-minute stops in Tamazret, Toujane, and Ksar Metameur where you'll be able to take stunning photos.
Lastly, we'll return to Djerba, where we'll drop you off at your hotel after a total of 8 hours.
