At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Djerba to begin this fascinating day trip to the south of Tunisia. Let's go!
We'll begin by driving for 2 hours along the old Roman road towards Tataouine, a captivating region in the Tunisian desert. Along the way, we'll make a brief stop to admire the Chahbania Salt Lake, a landscape that will leave you speechless. This lake is known for its beauty and vibrant shades of colour, perfect for taking a photo or two.
Once we reach Tataouine, we'll spend 1 to 2 hours immersing ourselves in its history marked by a former French penal colony. We'll explore the local market, where the aroma and colour of spices will amaze you. We'll also get to know the traditional constructions that used to serve as community granaries.
Our day trip will continue in Chenini, a picturesque village located at the top of a mountain slope. After a 20-minute drive, we'll be met with troglodyte houses unique to this part of the world and still inhabited. At the foot of the mountain, we'll also visit an old mosque that will reveal the millennia-old history of the area.
After exploring Chenini for an hour, we'll take a break to re-energise in a restaurant, where you can taste the authentic flavours of its local cuisine, like Tunisian pastries and couscous. Ready to tackle more adventure? Once we've finished lunch, we'll continue exploring the village's narrow streets and learning about Berber culture at Ksar Ouled Soltan, a perfectly preserved fortified granary.
Once we've begun our journey back to Djerba, we'll have one final 30-minute stop at Ksar Hadada, a memorable spot that was used as a filming location for Star Wars.
After a total of 8 hours, we'll say our goodbyes at your hotel.
