La Angostura Canyon Trekking
La Angostura Canyon
On the day of the activity, we’ll meet at the entrance to Cañadón La Angostura, in the countryside between Gaiman and Dolavon. After a brief introduction to the route, we’ll set off on a hike through one of the most unique landscapes in the Chubut River valley.
Before setting off, we’ll do a warm-up with some mobility exercises. Once ready, we’ll set off on a walk of around 2 km (1.24 mi) amongst sedimentary rock formations. We’ll make our way through hills and ridges that were once associated with springs. Along the trek, we’ll see how the terrain alternates between slopes, uneven surfaces and narrow passages.
The highlight of the trip will be reaching Cañadón La Angostura, a 216-m (709 ft) long natural gorge whose walls rise to a height of 15 m (49.2 ft). We’ll walk through this rocky passageway, observing its textures, strata and whimsical shapes.
In some places, the canyon narrows so much that we’ll have to proceed with care, using our hands to help us climb over small, uneven sections. We won’t be doing any technical climbing, but we will encounter three sections of intermediate difficulty. Don’t worry, though; there’ll be a ladder at the most challenging one. Adventure at its very best!
After 1.5 hours of walking, we’ll finish this experience back at the meeting point.
