Tour Details
At the indicated time, we’ll meet in Plaza de Alfonso X el Sabio, where we’ll begin this free tour of El Puerto de Santa María, one of the most well-known destinations in the province of Cádiz.
Once ready, we’ll walk to the Castle of San Marcos, a medieval fortress that will help us understand the city from a strategic perspective, overlooking the Guadalete River as a former trade route.
Just a few steps away is the Juan de la Cosa Map, a monumental reference to Renaissance cartography. At this point, we’ll understand why El Puerto served as a link between the Bay of Cádiz and the Atlantic Ocean.
We’ll continue walking toward Plaza del Polvorista, where we’ll explore local architecture through its stately homes. We’ll be surrounded by façades with academic composition and a style that reflects the city’s commercial prosperity. Afterward, we’ll head to the House of Pedro Muñoz Seca to discuss theater and satire as part of the city’s intangible heritage.
Next stop: the Rafael Alberti Foundation, where we’ll talk about literature, memory, and the cultural avant-garde of El Puerto de Santa María. Further along, the Major Prioral Church will impress us with its architectural evolution, showcasing different structural and decorative styles that we’ll examine along the way.
We’ll then enter the Market Hall, a sensory reflection of daily life, filled with regional products and tradition.
We’ll end our free tour of El Puerto at the Town Hall, in Plaza Isaac Peral. There, we’ll say our goodbyes after spending 2 hours together.
