Lake Petén Itzá Boat Ride + Chechenal Beach
Tour Details
After picking you up from your hotel in Flores, we’ll head to the pier to board a boat and begin this tour of Guatemala’s third-largest lake. Let’s set sail!
We’ll cruise across Lake Petén Itzá, and from the very first moment, we’ll see the tropical rainforest surrounding the basin. Our first stop will be at Arcas, a wildlife rescue center where we’ll see various species that have been rehabilitated in Petén. This visit will allow us to get a closer look at the local biodiversity and better understand the immense ecological value of the lake and its forests.
Next, we’ll head to the Tayasal archaeological site, a key location for understanding the region’s history. Did you know this was the last Mayan city conquered by the Spanish? During this visit, we’ll learn about the strategic importance of this settlement, closely linked to the ancient Itzá Mayan kingdom.
We’ll then continue to the town of San Miguel. There, we’ll stop at the Stone Horse and climb up to King Canek’s viewpoint. After a short hike, we’ll reach the summit, where we’ll get the best view of Lake Petén and its villages. Photo op!
To end the day on a high note, we’ll return to the boat and head to Chechenal Beach. We’ll give you 1 hour of free time to relax, sunbathe, swim in the lake, and unwind. What a life!
Finally, we’ll begin our return to the starting point. There, we’ll say our goodbyes after a total of 3.5 hours on the tour.
