On this hike around the Granz Joseph Glacier, we'll cross astounding landscapes around one of the most impressive glaciers in the world. We'll combine the excitement of a helicopter ride with a trek across ice. You'll love it!
Activity Details
At the designated time, we'll meet at Cron Street, 63, where we'll greet you with a warm welcome and provide all the necessary equipment to begin this adventure. Ready for an exciting experience?
From here, we'll make our way to the heliport to hop onto the helicopter that will take us to the starting point of our hiking route, at the top of the Franz Josef Glacier. During the 45-minute flight, you'll get to enjoy spectacular scenic views of the Westland National Park. Don't forget to bring your cameras!
Once we've reached the glacier's highest point, we'll attach our crampons and begin a 2.5-hour trek to explore the glacier's incredible ice formations. Did you know that it is 12 kilometres (7.5 miles) wide?
We'll walk between impressive ice blocks in the glacier, sliding down narrow crevices and, if we're lucky, we'll even get to venture into an ice cave.
Lastly, we'll hop back onto the helicopter to return to the meeting point, where we'll say our goodbyes after a total of 4 hours.
