At the indicated time, we'll meet in front of the iconic Chowmahalla Palace to begin a free tour of the capital of Telangana state. Are you ready for an enriching journey through the heart of Hyderabad's old town? Let's get started!
As you would expect, we'll begin to discover the monumental wealth of Hyderabad by admiring Chowmahalla Palace, the former official residence of the Nizams. This incredible royal palace, surrounded by manicured gardens and beautiful fountains, consists of four separate buildings connected by different courtyards. Its architecture is very similar to the Shah's Palace in Iran. In fact, many say it's a copy!
From here, we'll walk along the bustling streets of Hyderabad until we reach one of the oldest mosques in India. We are referring to the Makkah Masjid Mosque, whose stone walls exude spirituality on all four sides. Built in the 17th century, it's a state-protected monument, as it perfectly represents the city's rich historical and cultural heritage. Proof of this can be seen in the delicate calligraphy and geometric patterns that decorate its walls.
Afterwards, we'll continue learning about the local culture by visiting a historic café, where the aroma of sweets and speciality teas will awaken all your senses. After discovering some of Hyderabad's cuisine, we'll head to Charminar, the city's icon and one of the most representative images of India.
This monument, which is also a mosque, was built in 1591 and has been telling the story of the city ever since. Surrounded by lively streets and colourful stalls, Charminar is one of the must-see places in Hyderabad. You'll love it! Nearby, we'll find Laad Bazaar, the perfect place to learn about the city's textile and craft traditions.
In addition, the free tour will take us to the Gulzar Houz fountain, a meeting point for merchants, travellers and locals. Finally, we'll visit Badshahi Ashurkhana, one of the city's great places of worship. Did you know that this temple is the place of mourning for Shiite Muslims?
Finally, after 2 hours in total, we'll say our goodbyes and finish our tour.
