La Plata Free Walking Tour
La Plata Free Walking Tour
We start our free walking tour of La Plata next to Piedra Fundacional stone monument in Plaza Moreno square. This the largest square in Argentina covering an area of almost 20 acres. Here you will hear all about the history of both the square and La Plata in general, as we encounter the two largest buildings located in this central location - the Municipal Palace and the Cathedral.
Visit the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, the principle Catholic place of worship in the city. This elegant shrine is Neogothic in style and inspired by the cathedrals of France and Germany. You will have your own free time to explore the various rooms located inside.
We will meet back up at the exit to the Cathedral and then head to Plaza San Martin square. Our guide will tell you all about the fascinating history of some of the iconic buildings that we will see on our tour, such as the Teatro Argentino Opera House, the government house, the obelisk of La Plata, and the Legislature of the Province of Buenos Aires.
Close to Plaza San Martin square, we will find the Pasaje Dardo Rocha center, which was the city's first train station in the city and the currently the most important cultural facility in the city. We will visit the interior of this landmark.
On the last part of the tour, we will explore the park in more detail, discovering the places such as the artificial lake, the Ecological House, the grotto, and the Planetarium.
