Want to visit one of the most beautiful villages in Colombia? On this day trip from Medellín, we'll go to Guatapé on a typical chiva bus. We'll also take a boat to La Manuela, a famous estate owned by the notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar.
Day Trip Details
We will meet at the designated time on Calle 9, specifically at LA 9 MALL GASTROTURISTICO, and from this point in Medellín, we'll make our way east on a traditional chiva, a typical Colombian bus.
While we travel on this unique transport, we'll enjoy a tasting of three traditional Colombian products. To begin with, we'll visit the Alto del Chocho Farm, where we'll get to know some animals such as alpacas, llamas, pigs, and horses.
Afterwards, we'll reach Guatapé, one of Antioquia's most beautiful villages. Our first stop will be at Piedra del Peñol, a huge rock where you can go up its 740 stairs. Once we reach the top, we'll enjoy magnificent views of the Peñol-Guatapé Reservoir.
We'll then make our way to Guatapé's historical centre, where we'll explore its picturesque and colourful streets. One in particular is covered by umbrellas, and it has become known as one of the most popular Instagram spots in Colombia. You'll be able to make the most of it and take plenty of photos for your social media.
After visiting the village, we'll make our way to a restaurant on the pier to enjoy a full Paisa lunch. Next, we'll hop on a boat across the Guatpé Reservoir. This boat trip will take us to La Manuela estate, an old hacienda that used to belong to the famous drug lord Pablo Escobar.
Once we reach the estate, we'll go on a guided tour of its remains. After learning some facts about Pablo Escobar, you'll have about 1 hour of free time to participate in one of the activities offered at the estate, if you wish. You can participate in paintballing or rent a jet ski or an ATV.
Lastly, we'll board the boat once more to travel back to Guatapé where the chiva will be waiting for us to drive back to our initial starting point in Medellín. The day trip will come to an end after a total of 10 to 11 hours.
