Tour Details

At the indicated time, we’ll meet at the bus terminal, where we’ll begin a guided tour of Miranda to discover this city in Mato Grosso do Sul, one of the main gateways to the southern Pantanal. Ready to explore its main attractions? Let’s go!

Founded in 1778 as Presidio de Nuestra Señora del Carmen del Río Mondego, this town has become one of the most notable destinations for rural tourism in Brazil. To start, we’ll head to the VisitorsGrove, very close to the bus terminal, to learn about the urban reforestation project carried out in Miranda.

Next, we’ll walk to the Indigenous Culture Reference Center, perfect for learning about the native peoples of this region: the Terena, Kinikinau, and Kadiwéu. You’ll also be surprised by the important role Indigenous groups played during the Paraguayan War.

We’ll continue walking through Miranda’s historic center as we explore the relationship between the river and the city’s economic development. At the same time, we’ll learn about local customs of the southern Pantanal, such as tereré, one of Miranda’s most traditional drinks.

We’ll stroll along Avenida Afonso Pena, where we’ll see local vendors selling regional products, and then pass through the Barraca da Dona Adélia area, ideal for learning more about the use of medicinal plants in local culture.

Of course, we’ll visit Usina Velha, one of Miranda’s main landmarks, representing the region’s industrial boom in the early 20th century. Did you know it’s declared a Historic Heritage Site of Mato Grosso do Sul? We’ll walk along Rua General Câmara, where the Casa Importadora is located, a building that was later used as military quarters during the war.

Our next stop will be Rua do Carmo, considered Miranda’s first street. We’ll walk among historic mansions until we reach Praça Agenor Carrilho, where we’ll visit the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Then, we’ll head to the Railway Station, dating from 1912, where we’ll learn how the arrival of the train connected Miranda with other regions of Brazil.

Finally, we’ll return to the Visitors’ Grove, where we’ll take part in a special experience: planting a native plant, a symbolic way to leave your mark on the southern Pantanal and contribute to environmental preservation.

At the end, 3.5 hours later, we’ll say our goodbyes and conclude this complete guided tour of Miranda.
