North Russia Train Tour: 10 Days

Day 1: Moscow

We'll be waiting for you at the airport in Moscow to take you to the hotel in the Russian capital, where you can rest or enjoy the Christmas atmosphere of the city.

Day 2: Moscow

You'll enjoy a delicious breakfast at the hotel before heading out to explore Moscow. Admire the main sights as we take a scenic tour that will end at a local restaurant, where we'll taste Russian delicacies. Following on, we'll go to one of the most famous and important architectural complexes in the world, the Kremlin, which houses authentic works of art!

Day 3: Moscow

We'll make the most of our second day in Moscow to visit the Kolomenskoye Park, which houses the Wooden Palace that was the summer residence of the Russian Tsars. Afterwards, we'll have tea and pancakes to warm up. Back in the centre of Moscow, we'll walk along Arbat Street before boarding the  Imperial Russia train. The journey begins!

Day 4: St. Petersburg

After the first night on the train, we'll have breakfast on board and go out to explore the second most important city in Russia, St. Petersburg. Known as "the capital of the north", St. Petersburg is famous for its palaces and bridges, which the tour will reveal. We'll visit the Peter and Paul Fortress, St. Isaac's Cathedral and Catherine's Palace (inside is the famous Amber Chamber).

In the evening, you can see the St. Petersburg Christmas market before returning to the train for dinner.

Day 5: Petrozavodsk

On the fifth day of the trip, we'll arrive in Petrozavodsk, the capital of Karelia. Here, you'll find out about the local traditions and visit the village of Kinerma, which maintains the historical essence of the region. We'll also taste Karelian tea and cakes from a local family. Back in Petrozavodsk, we'll enjoy a tour that will end at the Museum of Fine Arts.

To end the day we'll enjoy a folk concert and return to the train for a delicious dinner accompanied by Russian vodka.

Day 6: Murmansk

The Imperial Russia train will cross the Arctic Circle until it reaches Murmansk, where you'll feel the polar cold that characterises this Russian city in the north of the country. After settling into the hotel, we'll go out to see the nuclear icebreaker baptized as "Lenin", as well as several monuments from the Second World War. In the afternoon you can explore the city at your leisure.

Later, we'll invite you to dinner with a show. If this day coincides with the 31st of December, we'll welcome the New Year as it deserves. 

Day 7: Murmansk

On the seventh day, we'll leave at midday to visit the village of Lovozero, where a large Sami community lives. A Lappish family will take us to the Santa Claus' house, or Grandfather Frost as he is known in Russia. You'll have the opportunity to enjoy dinner with him as he explains the importance of reindeer breeding in the region. Moreover, if we're lucky we'll attend one of the most beautiful spectacles of nature, the northern lights. They are very common in Murmansk!

Day 8: Imperial Russia

After several intense days, you'll have the opportunity to rest on board the train. While we travel to our next destination, you can enjoy the train's activities.

Day 9: Vologda

After a day's travel, we'll arrive in Vologda, a city full in history. As we walk through the centre of Vologda we'll see its characteristic wooden houses and stalls with lace made by the city's artisans. We'll also visit the Kremlin of Vologda and step back in time to when Tsar Ivan the Terrible walked through five centuries ago... The day will end returning to the train and travel back to the capital.

Day 10: Moscow

The Imperial Russia train will arrive in Moscow in the morning. You'll have some time to collect your luggage and we'll take you to the airport in the capital.

Accommodation in Moscow and Murmansk

The tour includes 2 nights in a hotel in both Moscow and Murmansk. The hotels planned for the tour are the following:

• Moscow: Baltschug Kempinski, Peter I or similar.
• Murmansk: Azimut, Park Inn or similar.
