Discover both the fascinating history and beautiful landscapes of Senegal when you take our brilliant day trip to Goree Island and Lac Rose lake.
At the indicated time, we'll collect you from your hotel and then head to the port of Dakar. There, a ferry will be waiting to take us to the captivating Island of Goree.
As we explore the island of Dakar, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you'll learn all about the important role it played in the Atlantic slave trade. Our first stop on the tour of Goree is at the House of Slaves, which was used as a prison and market for slaves during this terrifying chapter of history.
Later, we'll stroll through the colorful narrow streets, lined with pretty colonial houses. We'll reach the historic fort, where you'll have stunning panoramic views of the coastline. Then we board the ferry again and sail back to Dakar. At the city's port, a bus will be waiting to take us to Lac Rose (the Pink Lake). This beautiful natural area is famous for having been the last stage of the Paris-Dakar Rally up until 2008.
We'll get in an off-roading vehicle which will take us on a tour of the lake's beautiful surroundings. Besides the amazing pink waters of Lac Rose, you'll also see the gorgeous sand dunes which separate it from the Atlantic Ocean.
Finally, before heading back to Saly, we'll enjoy a refreshing dip in the lake. You'll discover that you'll easily float on the surface due to the water's high salt content.
The tour will come to an end 10.5 hours later back at the starting point.
Please note that during Senegal's rainy season, the lack of sunlight causes the lake's color to fade. This typically occurs between August and October. Swimming in Lac Rose is only permitted if the weather is nice. If you have enough time, you'll have about 15 minutes to enjoy the lake's salty waters. Don't forget your bathing suit!
