The gorges of the Atacama Desert are breathtaking. You'll discover one of the most spectacular on this trekking route through the Salto del Chintaguay gorge, where you can also enjoy an exciting rappelling activity.
We'll pick you up at the time of your choice at your hotel in Pica and we'll travel in a 4x4 vehicle to the Salto del Chintaguay. This gorge in the Tamarugal Pampa, in the middle of the Atacama Desert, will captivate you from beginning to end.
First of all, we'll the 4x4 will take us to the top of a hill to get magnificent panoramic views of the Atacama Desert. After enjoying the views, we'll embark on a trekking route through the Salto del Chintaguay gorge. In this medium-difficulty hike, we'll cover about 2 kilometers (1.25 miles).
The effort will be worth it since we'll ascend 70 meters (230 feet) to reach a viewpoint from where we'll see beautiful panoramic views of the Salto del Chintaguay gorge. We'll take advantage of this break to have a snack that includes an energy bar, chocolate, nuts, and fruit. As a drink, you can opt for tea or coffee.
After replenishing our strength, we'll continue the trekking route through the Salto del Chintaguay along the edge of the ravine. Along the way, we'll get to see several pictograms from pre-Columbian times that we'll try to decipher.
Finally, we'll return to the starting point of the trekking route and from there we'll return by 4x4 to your hotel in Pica, where we'll arrive four hours after pickup.
If you wish to complete your experience, we recommend booking the option that includes rappelling in the Salto del Chintaguay. In this case, we'll first do the trekking route and then we'll do a descent of 7 meters (23 feet).
Afterwards, we'll take a short walk along the edge of the ravine, and then we'll enjoy another rappel activity in which we'll descend 5 meters (16.5 feet). Finally, we'll contemplate the pre-Columbian pictographs of the gorge and return to your hotel in Pica five hours after pickup.
