Tour Details

At the designated time, we'll meet at the Portas da Cidade to begin the free tour of Ponta Delgada. We'll walk through the historic center discovering its secrets and admiring the facades of the capital's most important monuments.

We'll start by taking in iconic landmarks such as the Ponta Delgada Town Hall and the Fort of São Brás. Did you know this fortress is considered one of the finest examples of 16th-century military architecture? It was built to defend the island against pirate and corsair attacks.

We'll continue through the old town and dig into the city's past. What role did it play in the World Wars? What connects this capital to the myth of Atlantis? We'll reveal all the details!

We'll see the exterior of the building housing the Museu Carlos Machado and discover why Ponta Delgada is known as the capital of Manueline architecture. We'll also talk about the typical cuisine of the Azores and the archipelago's most illustrious figures.

After 2.5 hours, we'll wrap up the free tour with our goodbyes at the Church of São Sebastião.
