On this day trip to Aveiro and Arouca, we’ll combine the best of the Portuguese Venice with a visit to the famous 516 Arouca Bridge and the Paiva Walkways. Let’s go!
At the indicated time, we’ll meet at Largo Actor Dias in Porto, where we’ll board a vehicle and head south on a 1-hour journey. During this first part of the route, we’ll admire an Atlantic landscape shaped by marshes, dunes, and fishing villages.
We’ll make our first 30-minute stop in Costa Nova. There, we’ll see its famous striped houses, a very distinctive architectural ensemble that once served as storage spaces and homes for fishermen.
Next, we’ll head to the historic center of Aveiro, known as the Venice of Portugal. We’ll reach the small pier where we’ll begin a 1-hour moliceiro boat ride. We’ll sail along the canals while admiring the city’s Modernist architecture and elegant urban layout.
After the cruise, we’ll return to the vehicle for a 1-hour journey to Arouca, traveling through a transitional landscape between the coast and the interior, where the terrain gradually becomes more mountainous.
Once there, we’ll enjoy a 1-hour-and-15-minute break for a traditional lunch, including 2 dishes featuring fish and meat prepared with seasonal products.
With renewed energy, we’ll prepare for adventure as we cross the famous 516 Arouca suspension bridge. During this 1-hour visit, we’ll enjoy breathtaking views from this structure suspended above the Paiva River Valley. The perfect photo opportunity!
Afterward, we’ll continue the excursion with a 1-hour walk along the Paiva Walkways. This route follows wooden platforms integrated into a hillside surrounded by gorges, rock formations, and almost untouched natural scenery.
Finally, we’ll begin the return journey to Porto, where we’ll say goodbye at the original meeting point after a total of 9 hours.
