Chiloé Day Trip: Ancud, Dalcahue & Castro

At 8:45 am we'll pick you up at your hotel in central Puerto Montt. From there, we'll travel one hour to the pier of Pardua. Upon arrival at the port, we'll board a ferry and begin to sail the waters of the Chacao Channel. Ready to discover the charms of the island of Chiloé?

During the crossing, we'll observe sea lions, pelicans and other typical marine fauna of the Los Lagos region. Did you know that this channel is the natural formation that separates the continent from the island of Chiloé? After about 30 minutes of cruising, we'll arrive at the port of Chacao and begin a brief stroll through town, where its picturesque church and main square stand out, before continuing our tour to the next stop.

Welcome to Ancud! Walking through its streets, we'll reach the famous Fort San Antonio, a historic fortification from the late 18th century located in the upper part of the city. Did you know that it's part of one of the last Spanish fortifications in the country? During the tour, we'll also pass by Plaza de Armas and the Municipal Market, which offers a variety of gastronomic options and local handicrafts.

Next, we'll continue the route through the island of Chiloé heading to the municipality of Dalcahue, where we'll go on a stroll to visit its handicraft market, its church and its Ethnographic History Museum. The exhibits in the museum's permanent collection will help us to better understand the way of life of the ancient inhabitants of this area of Chile.

The last stop will take place in Castro, the island's capital. Something about this last town that is sure to catch our attention is that most of its houses are painted in bright colors. You'll learn all about why on the tour! There, you'll also have an hour of free time for lunch.

After a bite to eat, we'll pass in front of the Church of San Francisco and visit the local craft market - the largest market on the island, in fact. Before returning, we'll take in the picture-perfect vistas from the Mirador Gamboa viewpoint.

Finally, we'll leave the island of Chiloé behind to return to Puerto Montt, where arrival is scheduled for 8:45 pm.
