Free Tour of Rio's Historic Center

Tour Details

At the scheduled time, we’ll meet in front of the Municipal Theater and begin this free tour of Rio de Janeiro, visiting the most important places in the heart of the city.

We’ll start the route in Cinelândia, a square of great urban value that organizes much of the city’s institutional and cultural life. There we’ll see emblematic buildings such as the National Library and the National Museum of Fine Arts.

Next, we’ll head to the Selarón Steps, one of the most recognizable artistic interventions in Rio. This staircase, covered with thousands of tiles from different countries, is a unique example of public art and the appropriation of urban space.

We’ll continue the tour in search of Confeitaria Colombo, the most famous pastry shop in Brazil. Opened in 1894, it’s a true art nouveau architectural gem that will transport you to the Belle Époque. It’s the perfect place to imagine what social life was like for Rio’s elite at the beginning of the 20th century.

After that, we’ll head to the Paço Imperial, a building of great political and historical significance. Built in the 18th century, this colonial-style structure served as an administrative headquarters during different periods of Brazil’s viceregal and imperial eras.

We’ll finish in Praça XV, the former civic center of Rio de Janeiro. In this square, we’ll interpret the overlapping layers of the city’s historical, monumental, and urban development. We’ll also see the Arco do Teles and the Banco do Brasil Cultural Center.

We’ll say our goodbyes after a total of 2 hours and 45 minutes of the tour.
