Tour Details

Modernity and the past, luxury and art, all come together perfectly in Rio de Janeiro's most bohemian neighbourhood. We'll meet up at the indicated time at Largo dos Guimarães to begin this free tour of the charming neighbourhood of Santa Teresa.

We'll stroll through the picturesque cobblestone streets as you hear all about the fascinating history of the area. Santa Teresa became known as the bohemium enclave of Rio after a wave of artists moved here in the 1960s during the military dictatorship in Brazil. Because of this, this area of Rio was the scene of important political and social uprisings.

During the tour, we'll also enjoy fantastic views of the popular Christ the Redeemer statue and the city centre. Making our way past imperial houses, palaces, and the popular yellow trams of Santa Teresa, we'll arrive at the Bar do Gomez, which was the meeting point of the locals 100 years ago.

We'll also visit other iconic places in Santa Teresa, such as Parque das Ruínas, where we'll learn about the history of illustrious figures from the neighbourhood, such as Laurinda Santos Lobo.

And, of course, it wouldn't be a tour of Rio's most artistic area without passing by some of the neighbourhood's main murals of urban art!

After about a 2.5-hour tour, we'll finish the free tour at the Selaron Stairs, the wonderful work of art that connects Santa Teresa with the neighborhood of Lapa.
