On this trip from Roseau, we'll learn about the fascinating history and nature of this island country by visiting Fort Shirley and the Dominica Botanical Gardens.
Located between the French islands of Guadalupe and Martinique, Dominica is a beautiful island country in the Caribbean that forms part of the lesser Antilles. We'll begin discovering the main two points of interest in its capital, Roseau, where at the scheduled time we'll pick you up at the cruise terminal.
The first stop will be at the Dominica Botanical Garden. In this great natural space, that was created when the island was part of the British Empire, we'll see numerous native species of tropical plants. The famous being the Bois Kwaib, the national flower of Dominica.
As well as observing the different native plants, flowers and trees, we'll also see many native birds. The most important of them is the Sisserou parrot, the country's national bird. Such is the importance of this bird that it can also be seen on the country's flag.
After visiting the Botanical Garden, we'll continue this tour of Dominica by heading towards the northern coast of the island, where we'll visit Fort Shirley. This is an old fort built in the crater of a volcano. This stronghold was built by the English during the wars against the French in the Lesser Antilles.
After learning about the events that have occurred at Fort Shirley, we'll make our final stop at a beautiful beach in the area, that changes according to the weather conditions. In this paradisical location, you'll have 45 minutes of free time to take a dip and grab a bite to eat.
The tour will come to an end back at the meeting point in Roseau, where we'll arrive around 5.5 hours after the initial pickup time.
