Quebrada de Humahuaca Day Trip Itinerary
After picking you up from your hotel, we'll begin our trip to the province of Jujuy, where you will encounter its main natural and cultural attractions.
Our first stop is at the Hill of Seven Colours. At the foot of its steep rocks, you will see the colourful tones that characterize the geology of the magical area of Quebrada de Humahuaca: pink, white, brown, red, green, earthy, and mustard. We will continue the route until arriving at the picturesque indigenous town of Purmamarca, which means ‘city of the desert’ in the native Aymara language. During this visit, you will have the opportunity to visit the town’s beautiful church and its traditional artisan market.
Around midday, we will reach Humahuaca, the largest town along the mountain pass. We will do a walking tour around its historic centre and see the majestic symbol of the people’s struggle, the Heroes of the Independence Monument. In Humahuaca, you will have your own free time to take lunch, the perfect opportunity to try the local cuisine of Jujuy.
Having eaten, we will head to the church of San Francisco de Paula in Uquía. Here, you can admire the extraordinary paintings of the arquebusier angels, which were done during the era of the Spanish Viceroyalties. Next, we'll make our way to the Pucará de Tilcara, an archaeological Indian site that is home to the remains of an ancient fort. We will visit the local Archaeological Museum to learn about the Indian culture in more detail. In Tilcara you will learn about how this place has cursed the Argentine Football team forever.
Following a full day of adventure through the Argentinian countryside, we will make the return journey to hotels in Salta.
