Salvador da Bahia Historic Centre & Barra Lighthouse Tour
Tour Options
When booking, you can choose between two different options. Both include hotel pickup and drop-off at your hotel in Salvador da Bahia and an English–speaking guide. You can see the details of each option below.
4-Hour Tour
After picking you up from your hotel in central Salvador da Bahia at the indicated time, we'll head to the historic centre of a fascinating city that's bursting with a mix of different cultures.
The first stop on our tour will be at the iconic lighthouse in the Barra neighbourhood, which is one of the most visited areas in Brazil's original capital. Did you know that this is the site where the city's iindependence was declared?
Next, we'll head to Pelourinho, a residential neighbourhood where the finest houses were located, but which also served as a place to punish slaves during the colonial era. However, after the abolition of slavery, it became a gathering place for artists and an important cultural centre. There, we'll visit the beautiful Church of São Francisco, a true treasure of Brazilian Baroque architecture.
In addition, in the historic centre, we'll see the Praça da Sé and the monumental architectural complex of Terreiro de Jesus, consisting of the Jesuit College, the Church of São Pedro dos Clérigos and the Church of São Domingos Gusmão. We'll visit all these places to understand their historical and cultural importance to the city.
Itinerary order: please keep in mind that for organisational reasons, the order of visits described in the itinerary may vary.
7-Hour Tour
In this tour, we'll begin by admiring the façades of the most representative churches of the colonial period, such as the Church of St. Francis of Assisi and the Basilica of Our Lady of the Conception da Praia, one of the oldest in the country.
Next, we'll tour the historic centre, paying special attention to Pelourinho. We'll continue to the Lacerda Elevator, from where, if you wish, you can enjoy a privileged view of the Bay of All Saints. Nearby is the Mercado Modelo, perfect for discovering local crafts and the typical atmosphere of Salvador de Bahia.
During the tour, we'll make a stop so that you can have lunch on your own.
The scenic route will take us to Fort Santo Antônio, home to the majestic Barra Lighthouse, one of the city's landmarks. We'll also pass by the Tororó Dam, adorned with sculptures of the orishas, and outside the modern Fonte Nova Arena, Salvador's most important football stadium.
Before returning to your hotel, we'll stop at the Fort of Nossa Senhora de Monte Serrat, overlooking the meeting point between the bay and the Atlantic Ocean, and at the Memorial and Sanctuary of Santa Dulce dos Pobres, the first Brazilian saint, a symbol of love and solidarity.
