Samara World War II Tour
Samara World War II Tour
At 1.30 pm, we'll meet at Revolution Square in Samara, a perfect starting point to learn about World War II and its impact on this city. The most important war in history forever changed the history of the world, of Russia, and of many of its cities. Let's find out about how!
We'll cross the Kubybyshev Square, considered the largest in Europe with its 17.4 hectares (over 42 acres), and we'll reach the Glory Square, full of symbolism and monuments dedicated to the Second World War. Here we'll discuss the relevance of Samara as an industrial engine of the USSR and how it spearheaded the country's aircraft industry during the conflict. One of the most striking landmarks in the square is the Monument of Glory, a majestic 53-meter obelisk dedicated to the exploits of the aircraft builders.
Next, we continue our World War II tour by visiting the Eternal Flame, a memorial complex that commemorates the devastating effects of the war and the many human losses. While reviewing the USSR's involvement in the war, we'll also visit the Lutheran Church of St. George, the Ladiya Monument, and stroll along the Volga River embankment.
Finally, we'll visit the Zhigulevsk Brewery, where you'll have the chance to enjoy this famous Russian beer in its facilities. We'll then end the tour at 4.30 pm.
