On this free tour of San Francisco de Campeche, we’ll take you on a journey to discover the rich colonial heritage of this city on the Yucatán Peninsula.

Free Tour Details

Brightly colored houses, sturdy bastions, beautiful colonial buildings… The historic center of San Francisco de Campeche has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. To begin exploring its rich heritage, we’ll meet at Pasaje Román Piña.

The first stop on this free tour of Campeche will be the Main Park Square, where we’ll see the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. Inside this Baroque and Neoclassical-style cathedral, we’ll find masterpieces of religious art such as The Holy Burial.

Next to the cathedral is the Cultural Center Casa Número 6, whose exterior architecture offers another example of Campeche’s colonial style.

We’ll continue the free tour of Campeche by crossing the Sea Gate toward one of the city’s many fortifications: the Bastion of Our Lady of Solitude.

After learning about the history of this defensive structure, we’ll visit another important fort in the city: the San Carlos Bastion. We’ll see the long row of cannons lined up along the walls!

The next stop on this free tour of Campeche will be at the Church of San Román, where we’ll admire the revered carving of the Black Christ.

Continuing along 59th Street, one of the city’s most popular streets, we’ll arrive at the El Claustro Cultural Center, the Casa Guerrero, and the Government Palace, where we’ll admire the mural by José Chávez Morado Campeche, an iconic work in the city.

Finally, we’ll return to the starting point, where we’ll wrap up this 2-hour free tour of Campeche.

Group Size

We do not accept reservations for groups of more than 6 people on this free tour. If you’d like to explore the city in a group exclusively for yourselves, we recommend booking the private tour of Campeche.
