On this tour of São Paulo, we'll visit three of the most interesting museums in the city: the Pinacoteca do Estado, the Museu da Língua Portuguesa, and the historic Estação da Luz.
The tour meets outside the Pinacoteca do Estado, where we'll meet at 10 am.
The Pinacoteca is one of the main museums in Brazil, housing more than 10,000 works of art. We'll first take in the details of this beautiful building, which dates back to the 19th century, and then admire the main masterpieces of its vast collection of paintings, sculptures, engravings, and photography.
The bronze statues of Auguste Rodin and the paintings of Almeida Junior are some of the most outstanding works, but not the only ones. We'll stop at the most striking ones and try to understand their meaning. After the guided tour of the Pinacoteca, you'll have an hour free for lunch at Praça da Luz.
After lunch, we'll meet at the center of the square, where one of São Paulo's main railway infrastructures is located: the iconic Estação da Luz, where we'll learn about the history of Brazilian trains and their evolution over the decades.
Next to the station is the Museu da Lingua Portuguesa, or Museum of the Portuguese Language. There, we'll discover how this language of Latin origin was born and how it gradually spread to South America and other parts of Africa and Asia.
Lastly, at 2 pm, we'll end the tour at the Praça da Luz.
