Free Walking Tour of Shanghai
Meet your guide next to the People's Square metro station exit, ready to begin your free walking tour of Shanghai. Gaze up at the different buildings that surround the large square, which is considered the very heart of the city centre.
Next to the square, you'll find the People's Park. Amongst other curiosities, this park is home to the Shanghai marriage market, whose Chinese name translates literally as "blind date corner". Parents with single children gather here every weekend, perusing the 'adverts' attached to umbrellas in the hope of finding a suitable match for their unlucky-in-love offspring.
Continue your route over to the old red light district, whose fame was renowned throughout Asia for decades. Follow your English-speaking guide down East Nanjing Road, Shanghai's famous pedestrianised shopping street. Learn how many shops are crammed along the road, which is the world's longest shopping district.
You'll also explore The Bund, a beautiful pedestrian-only waterfront area, from which the avant-garde skyline of this incredible city stands out on the opposite bank of the Huangpu river. The soaring skyscrapers have earned the nickname of the "New York of Asia". Did you know that Shanghai also has its very own Wall Street?
Take a break in this district to recharge your batteries with some delicious local food (not included). With renewed energy, you'll continue your exploration of the city, finishing your tour in Yuyuan Park.
