Hike Details
We'll begin our adventure by picking you up at your hotel in Stellenbosch. From there, we'll travel for about 15 minutes toward the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve.
Upon arrival at Jonkershoek, we'll start a hiking route of 6.08 mi (9.8 km) in total. The wide and well-marked initial trail will greet us with the unique aroma of fynbos, a type of native ecosystem that is home to more plant species than many entire regions in the world. Did you know Jonkershoek is home to over 1,100 species of plants, some of which are unique to the planet? It'll be a privilege to be there!
Before you know it, the water will mark your rhythm—we'll follow the course of the Eerste River, crossing through rocky areas with granite, reflecting silver sparkles. The slopes will be relatively gentle, inviting us to calmly walk, while small streams and forests offer shade and coolness.
At each open stretch, we'll admire the scenic views that make this reserve one of the most beloved natural treasures of Stellenbosch. After a total of 1.5 to 2 hours hiking, we'll reach the best part of the route once we reach Jonkershoek Waterfall.
You'll see the water rushing down a rocky wall into a pool of crystal-clear water where you can cool off after the ascent. The environment will be perfect for a rest while we enjoy a snack, coffee, or tea. You deserve it!
We'll continue our hike through more winding trails before we begin our return journey. Finally, we'll drop you off at your hotel after a total of 4 to 6 hours.
