On this nighttime turtle-watching experience, we'll see these huge reptiles walking along Tortuguero Beach to find the perfect spot to lay their eggs.
Turtle Watching Details
Are you ready for one of the most incredible spectacles of nature you'll ever see? In that case, after meeting at the designated time on Tortuguero's main pier, we'll begin a walk along the path that will lead us to the beach where these fascinating reptiles wander around by night.
Before reaching the turtle nesting area, we'll have an informative talk to learn about how to approach the turtles without disturbing them as they walk on the beach. We'll quietly approach the beach alongside the guide, where we'll see these large sea turtles in search of a safe place to lay their eggs.
When the moment is right, we'll get closer in small groups to watch the nesting process. Using only infrared lights carried by the guide, we'll witness the incredible spectacle of tiny eggs dropping from the massive body of the sea turtle. The species that reach the Tortuguero coast are the hawksbill sea turtle, the olive ridley sea turtle, and the green sea turtle, depending on the season. Did you know that they incubate the eggs for two months, but only a few survive?
After watching the circle of marine life and getting to know more about the egg-laying process, we'll say our goodbyes at the meeting point after a total of 2 hours.
Activity Schedule
Please note that, on the day of the activity, around 6 pm, we'll contact you to establish the starting time of the tour. The schedule can vary between 7 pm and 9 pm, as the Park's Administration awards access schedules to certified guides.
