Carthage & Sidi Bou Said Tour Itinerary

On the morning of your tour, at around 8 am, you'll be picked up from your hotel in Tunis, ready to begin your guided tour of Carthage and Sidi Bou Said, two of Tunisia's most impressive places of interest.

The first stop on your sightseeing tour will be at the archaeological site of ancient Carthage. Arriving at Byrsa hill, you'll spot the first ruins of the historic capital. Founded by the Phoenicians in the 9th century BCE, the city was later conquered by the Romans before being occupied by the Arabs, leaving behind an incredible mix of cultural heritage. Accompanied by your English-speaking guide, you'll explore the remains of ancient Carthage, discovering its legendary history along your route and visiting some of its most surprising ruins, like the commercial and military ports that allowed the Carthaginians to maintain their control over the seas for many centuries.

You'll then head to another nearby pre-Roman archaeological site: the Tophet of Carthage, a sacred place which served as a cemetery and sanctuary dedicated to the deities Tanit and Baal. Here, you'll have the opportunity to admire Carthaginian funerary and religious artwork that has survived over thousands of years.

After discovering the secrets of the Tophet, you'll climb back aboard the tour bus for the next part of your journey: visiting the coastal town of Sidi Bou Said, located just ten minutes' drive from the ruins of ancient Carthage. As you stroll through its labyrinthine lanes, you'll be enchanted by the contrast of its typical whitewashed houses with the stunning blue of their doors and windows and the sparkling azure of the Mediterranean Sea, which you'll see shimmering from the town's viewpoints.

In addition to its picturesque beauty and seaside charm, Sidi Bou Said is known for its lively atmosphere and many shops and cafes offering the opportunity to indulge in some souvenir shopping and enjoy a tea or coffee while taking in the spectacular panoramic views.

Having made the most of your time in Sidi Bou Said, you'll be taken back to Tunis, where you'll be dropped off at your hotel at around 12 pm.
