Medieval Valencia Tour
Our guided tour of medieval Valencia begins at the Plaza de la Virgen square in the heart of the historic quarter of the city. Afterward, we will visit one of the architectural symbols of the city: the magnificent Serranos Gate. These watchtowers were built in the 14th century, a key period in the history of the city which you will hear all about during the tour.
One hundred years earlier, in the 13th century, the conquest of Valencia by James I meant a period of transformation for the city. We will appreciate these changes as we stroll through the historic center of the capital of the Turia region.
The cathedral of Valencia is one of the principal landmarks of the old town. Its famous bell tower, the Miguelete, hides a fascinating history. Our professional guide will reveal all as you marvel at the beautiful architecture. The medieval architect Pere Balaguer participated in much of the construction of the tower, just as with many other of the city's important monuments.
Another jewel of the Valencian Gothic is the iconic Llotja de la Seda (the Silk Exchange). Standing in front of the impressive façade, we will appreciate its mix of different architectural styles, which offer us clues about the city's fascinating commercial past. You will learn all about why this activity is so important for the Valencians.
After hearing other enthralling stories about medieval Valencia, our visit finally ends in the Plaza de la Reina square, the heart of the city.
During the tour, we will not enter the interior of any museum or monument, but we will visit their exterior grounds and admire the exterior architecture.
