Explore the vastness of the Namib Desert on this four-day tour of Sossusvlei. You'll feel like you're on another planet as you discover giant sand dunes, arid salt pans and local wildlife!
Sossusvlei Tour: 4 Days from Windhoek
Day 1: Windhoek
On the first day of our desert safari, we'll be waiting for you in the arrivals area of Windhoek Airport. From there we will head to the city centre to take you to your accommodation for the night, Discovery Guesthouse.
Depending what time you arrive, you can spend the day exploring Windhoek at your own pace and discovering the city's culture. Your hotel will happily recommend excellent local restaurants where you can try Namibian cuisine.
Day 2: Windhoek - Sossusvlei
At 8:30 am on day two, we'll climb aboard the minibus and head south towards Sossusvlei, making a stop on the way at one of the best possible places for unparalleled views over the Namib Desert. You'll be captivated by the unique landscapes!
Continuing onwards, we'll reach the Solitaire Oasis, the perfect spot to enjoy an energising picnic lunch before the last leg of our journey. At around 3:30 pm, we'll arrive at our accommodation for the night, with plenty of time to relax by the pool and rest ready for the next day's adventure.
Day 3: Sossusvlei
We'll wake up at dawn to make the most of the day and set off for the Sossusvlei salt flats. Passing through Sesriem Gate, we'll enter this national park known for its salt and clay pans surrounded by towering red sand dunes. You'll be left speechless by the incredible desert landscapes around you from the moment we arrive.
Delving deeper into the desert, we'll reach Dead Vlei. This clay plan doesn't seem real: the black skeletons of long-dead camel thorn trees jut out of the arid white ground, contrasting against the red of the dunes and the blue of the sky. It's hard to imagine what this place would have been like before drought hit the area - some of the trees are thought to be around 900 years old!
After marvelling at Dead Vlei, we'll get to explore the great sand dunes of the Namib Desert. If you're feeling energetic, dare to climb the tallest sand dune in the world! Afterwards, we'll stop for a well-earned hour and a half break to eat and rest before continuing our tour.
For the finishing touch on our day, we'll visit the Sesriem Canyon, an impressive natural rock formation of up to 30 metres (100 feet) deep.
Day 4: Sossusvlei - Windhoek
After breakfast, we'll climb back onto the minibus for the return journey to Windhoek. On the way back, we'll admire the beautiful scenery of the Namib Desert and make one last stop at the Solitaire Oasis.
Our four-day tour of Sossusvlei will come to an end back in Windhoek at around 12:30 pm, and you'll have the choice between being dropped off at a restaurant for lunch, back at your hotel or at the airport for your onwards journey.
Depending on the option you choose when making your reservation, you'll stay in furnished tents or in comfortable cabins at Toshari Lodge, or similar. On the first night, in Windhoek, you'll stay at Discovery Guesthouse or similar.
The minimum age to participate in this safari is 5 years old. However, it is not recommended for children under 15 years old.
