Plitvice Lakes Day Trip Itinerary
On the morning of your tour, around 9 am, you'll be picked up from your hotel in Zagreb and taken south, through the verdant Croatian countryside in the direction of the Plitvice Lakes National Park.
Along the route, you'll make a stop in Rastoke, a picturesque settlement that is known for its quaint water mills. Its name roughly translates as "the branching of rivers", and it is located where the Slunjčica River splits and forms the Korana River. You'll have time here to stretch your legs and wander around the pretty village, taking photos of the historic buildings.
Hop back on the bus to finish the rest of your journey, and you'll soon arrive at the majestic Plitvice Lakes. With the help of a map, your guide will point out the sixteen lakes and the cascades that connect them, explaining the different routes that you'll be able to explore to make the most of your day trip. After enjoying a delicious traditional meal (optional), you'll have around 4 - 5 hours of free time to discover the national park at your own pace.
The Plitvice Lakes National Park is a truly magical place. The lakes, split over different levels of mossy rock, are filled with pools of naturally colour-changing waters. Impressive waterfalls - the tallest is over 255 feet (78 m) tall - and rivers snake through the lush virgin forest, which is home to diverse wildlife including brown bears! Hike through the captivating wilderness thanks to the wooden walkways and immerse yourself completely in its beauty.
After meeting back up with your guide, you'll make the return journey to Zagreb, where you'll be dropped off at your hotel between 7 pm and 9 pm.
Traditional meal at Plitvice Lakes
Complete your experience enjoying a typical lunch during your excursion to Plitvice Lakes. You'll be taken to a local restaurant where they serve delicious Croatian food including one of the most traditional delicacies - lamb or beef cooked "under the peka". This way of cooking, popular in the Balkans, literally means "under the lid" - meat and vegetables are placed under a cast iron pan which is covered with embers in a wood oven. You'll have your pick of the many dishes on the menu, which includes vegan and vegetarian options.
Between the 2 November and 1 March this excursion requires a minimum of 2 people to operate.
