Walking Tour, Doge's Palace & St. Mark's Basilica
Description
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at your chosen meeting point, from where we'll begin our tour of the city of canals. We'll take the opportunity to walk around the square to admire its monuments.
The tour will then continue through the Piazza di Santa Maria Formosa, where we'll see a church bearing the same name. Then, we'll reach the Campo de SS. Giovani e Paolo. Here, we'll find the famous Pantheon of Venice, as well as the Great School of Charity. As travel enthusiasts, we cannot miss out on the House of Marco Polo, the most renowned traveler in history. Leaving behind the Malibran Theater, one of the most important theaters between the 17th and 18th centuries, we'll take the bustling Mercerie Street to return to Piazza San Marco and visit its two most iconic buildings.
First, we'll enter the Doge's Palace, where we'll stroll through the rich rooms from which the powerful Doge of Venice decided the fate of the duchy. On this visit, we'll delve into an era of magnificence and opulence, climbing golden staircases and admiring the works of art of famous painters such as Titian and Tintoretto. Then, we'll go down to the dungeons, where the convicts were taken through the Bridge of Sighs. This is where we'll reveal which prominent figures were imprisoned in their cells.
Next, we'll enter the Museum of The Basilica of San Marco, where we'll learn about the origins of the temple as we walk through the exhibition rooms. We'll admire its beautiful mosaics and then go out to the terraces to discover the interesting story of the Four Horses of San Marco. After leaving the basilica, we'll end the tour.
