Tour Details
At the designated time, we'll meet at the Piazza Duomo. Here, we'll begin a guided tour of Altamura that will allow us to explore this lovely town in depth in the Murge plateau. Let's go!
Firstly, we'll observe the facade of Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta, built in the Romanesque-Gothic style and its two bell towers. We'll then walk towards Pontrelli Quarry, known better as Dinosaur Quarry. Did you know the footprints of over 200 species were found at this site?
We'll continue our journey into the past by reaching the historical centre. Together, we'll visit the house of musician Saverio Mercadante and the San Nicola dei Greci Church, which dominates the city's main street. Additionally, we'll discuss the history of Altamura, inhabited since the dawn of time. To prove this, we'll see the remains of Ciccillo, who lived over 150000 years ago.
To end this tour on a high note, we'll make our way to a typical bakery to taste some authentic Altamura bread, famous in the whole world. Its unmistakable flavour will be a delight for your taste buds!
Lastly, after 2 hours, we'll say our goodbyes at the initial starting point.
