Day Trip Details
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Antigua Guatemala and head to Panajachel, whose indigenous traditions remain deeply rooted in every corner of this dynamic Guatemalan town.
Arriving in Panajachel, you'll have 1 hour of free time to have breakfast at your own pace. Afterward, we'll board a boat ready for a cruise across Lake Atitlán. The lake is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful in the world. See it for yourself as you admire the spectacular view of the Tolimán, Atitlán, and San Pedro volcanoes towering over the sparkling lake.
Our first stop of the day will be the town of San Marcos, a charming, calm, and bohemian place known for its connection to nature. For 45 minutes, we'll walk along its gardens and beautiful streets on the river shore.
We'll continue our boat trip to set off to San Juan La Laguna, a picturesque town where we'll get to see the Tzʼutujil people's traditional way of life. You'll have the chance to discover some of the traditional Mayan products crafted in the region, such as tunics embroidered with animal motifs and vibrant colors, as well as various handicrafts. To this end, we'll take part in two experiences with local families: a tour focused on Mayan bees, complete with a honey tasting, and a cotton-themed tour, which offers a perfect look at how the fiber is spun, dyed, and woven on traditional looms.
After touring the streets of San Juan La Laguna, you'll have free time to take photos and continue exploring the town. After approximately 2.5 hours, we'll head to Santiago Atitlán, the largest Mayan town of the lake. Located between the volcanoes of Tolimán and Atitlán, you'll have 2 hours of free time to eat and explore the streets of this town at your own pace.
Finally, we'll return to Panajachel by boat and climb aboard the bus to return to Antigua Guatemala, where we'll say our goodbyes at your hotel 13.5 hours later.
