On this hiking route through Corcovado National Park, we'll watch the sunrise over the jungle in the Los Planes sector, an ecosystem of pristine biodiversity. The awakening of nature in Costa Rica is pure magic!
Activity Details
At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Bahía Drake and head to the Los Planes sector in the heart of Corcovado National Park. On arrival, we'll lace up our boots and set off on an 8-kilometer (5-mile) hiking route.
We'll walk through tropical forests where the vegetation is arranged in perfectly defined layers, with the towering buttress roots of giant trees, and a dense understory of heliconias and aroids below a canopy that filters the light in the most magical way. Did you know that Corcovado is home to around 2.5% of the world's biodiversity, despite occupying a tiny fraction of the planet's surface?
We'll make our way through the forest, alert to the sounds of cracking branches that might signal the presence of the Baird's tapir, the largest land mammal in the Americas. We'll also listen for the distant howls of howler monkeys marking their territory and watch squirrel monkeys swinging through the treetops.
The final stretch will take us to a hidden waterfall fed by mineral-rich waters, where moss, lichen, and ferns thrive in a virtually untouched ecosystem. To refuel after the hike, a traditional breakfast with seasonal produce will be waiting for us at the end of the trail.
Finally, we'll head back to your hotel, wrapping up this 6 to 7-hour adventure.
