Bogotá Gold Museum Guided Tour
Gold Museum
At the scheduled time, we’ll meet in front of the entrance to the Gold Museum, in the heart of the La Candelaria neighborhood. After a brief introduction, we’ll enter this space that houses the largest collection of pre-Hispanic goldwork in the world.
We’ll begin the visit in the Metalworking room. Here, we’ll understand how the Muisca, Quimbaya, and Zenú peoples, among others, mastered advanced metallurgical processes long before the arrival of Europeans in the Americas. We’ll see pieces made of gold and tumbaga, an alloy of gold and copper widely used at the time.
Next, in the People and Gold in Pre-Hispanic Colombia room, we’ll explore how these objects were integrated into political, social, and religious life. We’ll then continue to the Cosmology and Symbolism room. Through hybrid figures, shamanic adornments, and ritual pieces, we’ll learn about the close relationship between metallurgy and indigenous beliefs.
Afterward, we’ll enter Offering, one of the most striking rooms in the museum, designed to recreate the ceremonial atmosphere of sacred lagoons and ritual offerings. Here, we’ll see the famous Muisca raft, which represents the ritual that inspired the legend of El Dorado.
We’ll also admire archaeological pieces such as the Quimbaya poporo, a masterpiece of form and craftsmanship.
We’ll end the tour in the Exploratorium, an interactive room that invites reflection on cultural diversity and the value of heritage. Here, you’ll experience a large-scale audiovisual display that recreates Muisca rituals.
The guided tour will end after a total of 2.5 hours.
