Retiro Free Walking Tour

We will meet up at the foot of the imposing statue of General San Martín in the historic square of the same name. From there, we begin our guided tour of the Retiro neighborhood exploring the surroundings of the square.

The square was declared a National Historic Site in 1942, due to its location in this beautiful neighborhood, and also because it is home to various important landmarks from Argentina's history. While we stroll around, we will discover the monuments that honor the different battles which have liberated Argentina, such as the Falklands war and the War of Independence.

We leave the square and then explore the different palaces in the surrounding area, such as San Martin palace, Paz Palace, and Palacio Haedo. As we stroll through this magnificent area, you will admire the luxurious, stately buildings. We will reveal all about how an outbreak of yellow fever at the end of the 19th century played an important role in how the district appears today.

Our next stop on our free tour is calle Florida, the street on which we find the famous Galerias Pacifico shopping center. Inside the historic building, with its Parisian Beaux-Arts design, you will find shops selling luxury items and high-quality brands. The interior design of this stately building is also something beautiful. Here you will have 15 minutes of your own free time to explore the galleries at your own pace.

You will also get to know the Kavanagh Building, one of the tallest residential tower blocks in Buenos Aires, the Torre Monumental clock tower, and the Tower of the English, constructed by British residents in the city to commemorate the centenary of the May Revolution.

After our guided tour of around an hour and a half, we will finish outside the Torre Monumental clock tower.
