Tour Details
We'll meet at the Plaza General San Martín, next to the imposing Monument of General San Martín. As we gaze at this sculpture, we'll talk about its significance and the legacy of the Argentinean hero. The perfect way to start our free tour of the Retiro neighbourhood!
From here, we'll admire the palaces that encircle the square: San Martín Palace, Paz Palace, and Palacio Haedo, all of which are magnificent examples of the history and architecture of the aristocracy of Buenos Aires. Did you know that some of these buildings were former residences of the most influential families of Buenos Aires?
Nearby, we'll see the Monument to the Fallen in Malvinas, which reminds us of the most recent conflict in the history of Argentina. Our route will then take us along the famous Calle Florida, one of the most important commercial arteries of the city. Here, we'll stop at the Galerias Pacifico, a shopping centre located in a historic Beaux-Arts style building reminiscent of the great Parisian passages. You'll have 15 minutes free time to explore the interior and admire the elegant frescoes.
We'll then walk to the iconic Kavanagh Building, one of the tallest residential towers in Buenos Aires, and the Torre Monumental, also known as the Tower of the English, built by British residents to celebrate the centenary of the May Revolution.
After about 2 hours in total, we'll finish the free tour at this last point.
