Itinerary
Leaving Apokoronas first thing in the morning, you'll head on your way to Aptera. Accompanied by your English speaking guide, you'll explore the historic Ottoman fortress and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Souda Bay.
Driving through the beautiful natural surroundings of Aptera, you'll head to your next stop: Gavalochori. To delve deep into Cretan culture, you'll visit the Historical & Folklore Museum where the island's fascinating traditions and important handcrafted objects will be revealed. You'll also get to see a demonstration of the local special knitting technique known as Kopaneli.
The tour will continue to the tiny hamlet of Xirosterni, where you'll visit a local 'raki' distillery producing the island's finest spirit. You'll then stop in Vrises, where you can enjoy a well-deserved Greek coffee by the riverside.
After a relaxing break, you'll arrive in Emprosneros. This picturesque village is home to the ruined tower of Alidakis, an infamous Ottoman official, and a hidden church built into rock. In this village you'll also be able to taste famous Cretan cheese in all its local varieties: graviera, mizithra and anthotyros.
You'll then see Vafes, Vatoudiatis and Alikampos before your final destination: Fres. Here you'll be able to immerse yourself in Cretan rural life and get to know the island's intriguing myths and legends. You'll also enjoy a delicious meal in a Greek tavern.
Following your exciting day exploring the villages of Apokoronas, you'll head back to your hotels.
