Day Trip Details
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at your hotel in Chetumal to set off to the archaeological site of Calakmul, one of the most important Maya vestiges in Mexico. Did you know that its name means "Snake Kingdom?"
For approximately 3.5 hours, we'll pass jungle landscapes until we reach the entrance of this incredible natural site. Before reaching the Calakmul ruins, we'll stop to stroll along a path in the tropical jungle for 1 hour. If you're lucky, you'll see the area's fauna, like howler monkeys and toucans.
After exploring the jungle, we'll continue our journey toward the majestic archeological site of Calakmul. As we explore this ancient Mayan city, you'll be amazed by its 70 square kilometers (27 square miles) and more than 6,000 buried structures. Calakmul is not just an important archaeological site, but also a place of invaluable biological diversity right in the middle of the Campeche jungle!
You'll feel just like a real explorer as we visit the main structures of the site, such as the Great Plaza, the Ball Court, and the Acropolis. We'll also discover the history and traditions of the Maya people through some of their carved stone stelai.
After visiting this site for 4 hours, we'll begin our journey back, where you'll arrive at your hotel after 13 hours.
