Cisternino Guided Tour

Once we've met up in Piazza Garibaldi, at the entrance to the gardens, we'll set off on our guided tour of Cisternino. We'll explore this town, rightfully included among the hundred most beautiful villages in Italy, with our knowledgable guide.

Nearby we'll find the Mother Church of San Nicola, a solemn 12th-century building constructed upon the foundations of an ancient basilica. We'll pause to admire its neoclassical façade, which was built in 1848 to replace the previous Romanesque one. After admiring the church, we'll stop at a panoramic viewpoint to gaze out at the Itria Valley and the Trulli houses and olive trees dotted across the landscape.

The tour will continue through the streets of Cisternino as we observe various examples of its "spontaneous architecture", with buildings closely linked to humanity's oldest traditions. We'll pass by the most prestigious historic noble buildings in Cisternino and stroll through the picturesque alleys, which are decorated with traditional Apulian chianche stones.

We'll then come to the majestic Norman tower, which dates back to the 11th century. This tower soars 55 feet (17 metres) into the sky on one of the highest hills in the Murge plateau. We'll also come to the Church of San Quirico and Giulitta, an impressive 18th-century building and the setting of a mysterious legend...

After 2 hours of history, we'll say our goodbyes and finish our guided tour of this beautiful place.
