On this trip, we’ll explore the history of Colima and Villa de Álvarez, visiting iconic landmarks such as the Hidalgo Theater and the Government Palace.
Day Trip Details
We'll pick you up from your hotel, and once everyone is ready, we'll dive into the history, art, and traditions of Colima and Villa de Álvarez. Two sister cities that share the same volcanic heart. Let's get started!
Our first stop will be the historic center of Colima, where time seems frozen among its arcades and colonial façades. We'll admire the Hidalgo Theater, a neo-Gothic gem that has welcomed generations of artists through its doors. Did you know that it was rebuilt after an earthquake and still preserves parts of its original structure?
Just across from it, the Government Palace will reveal its history through the murals of Jorge Chávez Carrillo, which portray the strength and culture of the people of Colima. Don't forget to take photos!
Next, we’ll visit the city’s main square, where the Minor Basilica Cathedral stands. There, we'll observe the perfect symmetry of the temple, dominating a plaza that has been a gathering place for centuries. We'll then stroll along the Constitución Walkway, a corridor filled with art and tradition, where the aroma of coffee follows every step.
Back in the vehicle, we'll drive past Nuñez Garden on our way to Piedra Lisa, a smooth stone that many say was thrown out by the Colima volcano thousands of years ago. Could it be true? We'll also pass by the Maestra Griselda Álvarez Roundabout, a tribute to Mexico’s first female governor.
Before you know it, we'll arrive in Villa de Álvarez. There, we'll explore its main square, admire the Parish of San Francisco de Asís, and stop at a traditional ice pop shop, where you can enjoy a handmade paleta (popsicle) while discovering the town’s charm.
Finally, we'll head to Cenaduría Julia or Mercedes restaurant, depending on availability, to enjoy the local cuisine with a typical local lunch. The perfect finishing touch for our trip!
Afterwards, we'll return to your hotel, ending the experience after a total of 6 hours.
