Rainbow Mountain is one of the most amazing landscapes in Peru. This trekking route will lead us to its summit, crossing unique natural scenery and sharing the path with llamas, alpacas and vicuñas. We'll also be able to discover the incredible Red Valley, a lesser-known gem that will leave you speechless.
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and set off on a 2-hour journey to the village of Cusipata, where we'll make a first stop to enjoy a typical breakfast and get ready for the hike. Ready for an adventure?
After fuelling up, we'll hop back into the vehicle and continue for 1.5 hours until we reach 4,850 metres (15,912 feet) of altitude. There, we'll begin our trekking route to the famous Rainbow Mountain. Over 3.5 kilometres (2.1 miles), we'll combine flat and hilly stretches, but it will be well worth the effort!
During our ascent, the landscape will take your breath away. We'll walk through areas where alpacas, llamas and vicuñas graze, with views of the Andes accompanying us. When we get to the summit, at 5,010 metres (16,437 feet) of altitude, you'll have free time to rest and enjoy the incredible show of colours that the mountain offers—it seems like an entirely different planet!
We'll make our descent through the Red Valley. This less-trodden route offers breathtaking views that will make you feel like you're on Mars. If you don't feel up for this part of the trek, you can return the same way we came up. No matter what you choose, we'll all meet back up at the bus station.
Once back in Cusipata, a delicious lunch will be waiting for us. After eating, we'll start the return journey to Cusco, where we'll say our goodbyes at Plaza Regocijo after a total of between 11 and 12 hours.
