If you're in Fajardo and you like roast pork, don't miss this excursion to Guavate, the most popular stop on Puerto Rico's famous Ruta del Lechón!
Guavate Excursion
At the indicated time we'll pick you up in front of the CVS Pharmacy in Fajardo and hit the road towards Caguas, located south of San Juan in the central mountain range of Puerto Rico.
Here, we'll make a brief stop at the Plaza del Centenario to learn about the history of the municipality. From there, we'll go to Charco Azul, a natural pool where you'll have about an hour of free time to take a refreshing dip surrounded by nature.
Then, we'll head to Guavate, a district in the municipality of Cayey, where we'll go on a guided tour through its picturesque streets. This entire district is surrounded by the lush green vegetation of the Puerto Rican jungle. A stunning landscape you'll not soon forget!
What Guavate is really known for, however, are its lechoneras, restaurants that serve roast pork, one of the great gastronomic references of this area of Puerto Rico. In fact, Guavate is the most popular destination of the famous Puerto Rican Ruta del Lechón, an iconic route full of restaurants and kiosks selling this local delicacy.
It goes without saying - you can't leave Guavate without trying the roast pork! We recommend taking advantage of the free time to sample it on your own at a lechonera of your choice; there are dozens of them to choose from.
Finally, we'll reconvene in the center of Guavate to return to Fajardo, where arrival at the meeting point is scheduled for 8-9 hours after pickup.
