Cinque Terre is situated on the Italian Riviera and comprises five charming and colourful fishing villages: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. It is one of the most popular and worthwhile day trips from Florence.

Cinque Terre Day Trip

The full day-trip begins bright and early. First thing in the morning, your guide will come and collect you from your hotel. Board an air-conditioned coach and relax on a 2-hour journey to Cinque Terre, five romantic villages clinging to the rugged ravine.

The first stop is Manarola, the oldest of the Cinque Terre villages. The village’s economy is based on fishing and viticulture.

From Manarola, you will take a train to Riomaggiore, a charming thirteenth-century hamlet famous for its local wine, and with a little over 1.500 residents.

Continue the journey to Monterosso, where you spend approximately two hours. This village is located in a small natural gulf and is famous for its long beaches and crystal-blue sea. Weather permitting, you’ll admire the stunning views of Cinque Terre from the water.

Upon arrival in Monterosso, you will stop for lunch (if you have booked this option) and you will have time to discover this charming village at your own leisure. From Monterosso you will continue the tour by train to Vernazza, a delightful fishing village enclosing a natural harbour. You will arrive here at approximately 3:45 pm.

Finally, you will hop back on a train that will cross La Spezia until you get to where the coach is waiting for you to head back to Florence. The tour comes to an end at 7:30 pm in Piazzale Montelungo, near Santa Maria Novella station.

Lunch at Monterosso

We will stop at Monterosso for lunch. You can either pick a local restaurant once you get there or choose to do this tour with lunch included. If you prefer this option, the menus include seafood salad, pasta with pesto and dessert accompanied by water or wine. If you prefer a vegetarian or gluten-free menu, please let us know in the comments section.

Self Guided Cinque Terre Tour

If you prefer to explore the Cinque Terre at your own pace, you can also book this tour and discover the area at your own leisure. This option includes a bus ride to Manarola and then you will have all day to visit the villages which you prefer. This option does not include transportation between the different villages.

Your host, who will accompany you on the bus, will indicate the meeting point at La Spezia, which you must get to at the end of the day to travel back to Florence.

Important information

  • This day trip will not include the famous trail Via dell’Amore that stretches along the Cinque Terre coastline, as it is temporarily closed. However, you will still appreciate the marvellous landscape of this part of the Italian coast.
  • The boat trip only operates between April and October and is subject to the weather conditions. The rest of the year, the itinerary will be carried out by bus and train.
