Alhambra Open-Air Free Tour

  • 24 reviews | 309 travellers
My friend and I were only in Granada for a short time and missed out on general admission tickets. This was a great alternative. The tour takes you around the free areas of the Alhambra but you get a good insight into the history of the different sections and the architecture. I've been to the Alhambra before but feel like I have a better understanding of the detail.

Tour Details

At the indicated time, we'll meet by the fountain in Plaza Nueva, in the heart of Granada. After everyone has arrived, we'll climb the iconic Cuesta de Gomérez until we pass through the Puerta de las Granadas. Here, we'll enter the lush forest of the Alhambra, a magical setting where stories from the Al-Andalus era come to life. We'll see the imposing Torres Bermeja and the historic Pilar de Carlos V, a jewel of the Spanish Renaissance.

After passing under the majestic Puerta de la Justicia, the most impressive entrance to the complex, we'll arrive at the Plaza de los Aljibes. Located between the Alcazaba and the Palace of Charles V, this square offers one of the best views of the Albaicín. It's the ideal place to understand the citadel's defensive architecture.

Next, we'll visit the exterior of the Palacio de Carlos V, the Church of Santa María de la Alhambra, and the old Taberna del Polinario. We'll also explore the Parador de Turismo, located in the former Convento de San Francisco, the first Christian church built within the complex.

After a 2-hour tour, we'll conclude at this final stop with a comprehensive overview of Granada's historical evolution.

Group Size

This tour does not allow groups of more than 6 people, even if booked separately. If you're a large group, we recommend checking out this private tour of the Alhambra.
