It has been more than 500 years since Christopher Columbus set foot in Cuba. Discover the exact point where he arrived in 1492 with this Bariay National Monument Day Trip.
Bariay National Monument Day Trip
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Guardalavaca at 9 am and set out for the Bariay National Monument, a series of monoliths erected in front of the sea to symbolize the arrival of Christopher Columbus on Cuban soil. This was the first place in the New World that the crew of the Santa María, Pinta and Niña ships saw!
Once there, we'll discover the figures that commemorate the confluence of the two cultures: a series of neoclassical arches representing Europe and some aboriginal statues that evoke the ancient American continent and that, in turn, are replicas of some nearby pre-Hispanic vestiges. Inside the Bariay park, we can also see a reproduction of indigenous huts.
Afterwards, we'll go to a local's house to sample Cuban coffee and coconut water. To continue enjoying this idyllic setting that so dazzled the Spaniards in 1492, we'll take a 45 minute ride in a carriage, on horseback or on foot to see the Bariay Bay, the mangrove areas, the coconut trees and the royal palms that dot this enclave.
Afterwards, we'll relax on the Bariay beach, a paradisiacal and tropical Atlantic beach where you can take a refreshing bath before setting off on our return journey.
Finally, we'll leave you at your hotel in Guardalavaca between 1 and 1:30 pm.
