Kochi, also known as Cochin, is home to an intriguing mix of Chinese, British, Portuguese and Dutch cultures in the Indian state of Kerala. Explore its iconic sights on this guided tour.

Itinerary

After being picked up from your hotel, you'll head to the first stop on your guided tour: St. Francis Church. Built in 1503, this is the oldest European church in India. Learn all about its incredible historical significance, especially in the colonial struggles, and find out which famous Portuguese explorer was buried here.

Your tour will continue to the centuries-old Dutch Palace. Ironically, despite its name, it was built by Portuguese colonisers as a gift to the Raja, or King of Cochin. Also known as Mattancherry Palace, the building is decorated with stunningly well-preserved mythological murals, a tradition of Hindu temple art.

The nearby Pardesi Synagogue will be your next stop. Located in the oldest part of the city, the Jewish temple is a perfect example of the true melting pot of cultures in Kochi. Stroll through the historic centre itself, getting lost in the narrow streets lined with typical colonial-style houses.

Finally, before returning to your hotel, you'll discover the famous Chinese fishing nets. These enormous structures, a legacy of 14th century Chinese explorers that still supply much of the fresh fish in the area, are the unofficial symbol of the Keralan backwaters and a popular tourist attraction.

Important information

The tour will not visit the synagogue on Saturdays, when it is closed.

This is a private tour, with a tour guide exclusively for you, your family, partner or friends. There won't be anybody else on the tour with you. Plus, if you're a large group, you'll even save money.
