Grande-Sauve Abbey Tickets
Why Visit the Grande-Sauve Abbey?
Located just over 30 km from Bordeaux, the remains of the former Benedictine Grand-Sauve Abbey are one of the main Romanesque monuments in the department of Gironde.
With your ticket to the Grande-Sauve Abbey, you'll visit the remains of this ancient monastery, which was built between the 11th and 13th centuries. Despite the passage of time, you can still see the characteristics of Romanesque architecture in the capitals and other remains of the monastery.
The name of the abbey, Grande-Sauve, literally means "The Large Jungle." And it's no wonder! As you stroll around the monumental complex's over 4.94 acres (2 hectares), you'll see that the entire abbey is surrounded by lush, green landscapes.
Next to the remains that make up the Grande-Sauve Abbey, you'll also find different informative panels. This way, you'll learn about the abbey's history, which is part of the monuments of the French Camino de Santiago, declared World Heritage Sites.
