Free Walking Tour of Lisbon
Come with us on this free walking tour of Lisbon, taking a journey through the most emblematic spots in the Portuguese capital, and immerse yourself in the past and the present of the city of Fado. What's more, it's FREE!
Free Walking Tour of Lisbon
The tour starts at the Obelisk in Praça dos Restauradores square. From there it's on to the São Roque hill, where the Jesuits resided more than 500 years ago before visiting the São Pedro de Alcântara viewpoint, one with spectacular views of the São Jorge Castle, the Lisbon Cathedral and the old town.
Then we'll continue through the streets of Barrio Alto, the most bohemian part of the city, until we arrive to Chiado. Here you'll learn all about the lives of Luís Vaz de Camões and Fernando Pessoa, two of those who wrote about Portugal's role as one of the world's major powers!
Lisbon was also the scene of events which shook the whole country, such as the 1755 earthquake, or the Carnation Revolution which put an end to the reign of the 'New State' and its dictator Salazar. The tour passes through the remains left by these historic episodes and will continue all the way to the famous Rossio Square, to take a look at the famous Santa Justa Elevator and the Jewish Memorial.
The tour will end around Commerce Square (Praça do Comércio).
